3656 | In 306 he and Ascaric led a Frankish raid across the Rhine into southern Gaul while Constantine the Great was campaigning against the Picts in Britannia. Apparently the two had made a previous agreement with Rome not to cross the border, since Constantine sought to punish them as traitors upon his return. The two chieftains were defeated, captured, and executed "for their past crimes," an act which "bound with fear the slippery loyalty of the whole race," according to one of the emperor's anonymous panegyrists. The execution took place in one of the chief cities of Gaul, probably Trier, and the two Franks and their followers were torn apart by animals in the amphitheatre before a large crowd. Their defeat was followed by the subjection of the Bructeri. -- Wikiwand: Merogais | de Toxandrie, King Ragaise (I34024)

3694 | In the Boonville City Directory of 1869-1870 is "Wald, Theodore (Grindner & Co.) Vine between 5th and 6th Streets From an Ancestry Post: I'm trying to find out more about my great great aunt, Mary Emmaline "Emily" (Rabia) (Mondier) WALD and her husband, Theodore "Theo" WALD. From a 1990 letter written by Odell Myers accompanying Santiago Rabia's papers donated to the Alamo, I have a few clues -- that the Walds had a house on East Bow Street which was damaged by a fire, that "they died in the 1930s" and that they are buried in "the Old Noonday Cemetery just East of Tyler." Another distant cousin remembered that there were headstones for their graves. She recalled that they were known to the family as Aunt Emm and Uncle Theo. Aunt Emm also went by Emily. Mary E and Theodore Wald appear on the 1900 through 1920 census records for Tyler, Smith Co., TX. Aunt Emm had been married before to Peter Mondier (seen spelled Mondere as well as Mondeer). She had a son James Mondier. He appears in a directory listing for Waco, TX in 1886, 1887 as a switchman for "T and street L Railway." Aunt Emm's granddaughter, "Elen R Mondeer," appears on the 1910 census residing in the Wald household, listed as age 14. The 1990 letter to the Alamo refers to the granddaughter as "Reitzel." On the Smith County, TX census records 1900 through 1920, the Walds have neighbors Charles H. and Ellen Reitzell. Aunt Emm was born before 1850 in Nacogdoches County, TX to Santiago RABIA and Nancy Rebecca CARROLL. The 1990 letter to the Alamo states that she may have resided in or near Belcherville, Montague Co., TX when married to Peter Mondere (Mondier). She appears on 1870 census records for Grayson County as Mary E Mondier. On 1880 census records for Grayson County, she is listed as Mary E Mondere. I would also like to know what happened to her son, James Mondier, and granddaughter, Elen R Mondeer/ Mondier/ Mondere. A Response to the Post: in Section C of Liberty Hill Cemetery, NE of Tyler at intersection of E. Erwin & FM 2767: Theo Wald 2-16-1849 - 5-26-1938 Emily Wald 11-28-1844 - 5-6-1936 They are also listed in some City Directories in the 30's, living at 420 E. Bow St. In 1937, Theo is listed alone. My Response to the Post: I have a Theodore Wald who was born in 1848 (by early census records)although it could be 1849. He was born in Fredersdorf, Markisch-Oderland, Brandenburg, Brandenburg, Germany; the son of Emmanual and Mary Wald. He first came to Madison, Wisconsin then to Cooper County, Missouri. When the Civil War broke out Emmanual took part of his family back to Wisconsin. Mary was deceased by that time. Part of the family stayed in Missouri. The family was very musical (Emmanual was a music teacher in Germany) so Theodore and his brother Adolph ended up in a regimental Union Army band during the War. Theodore returned to Boonville Cooper County, Missouri but left sometime after 1870. It is said that he left for Texas and the family lost touch with him. Could The Theodore Wald who married M. E. Mondere on 22 Apr 1890 in Navarro County, Texas and mine be one in the same? To me this is a long story of many years in the making. In 1870 Theodore was a tanner in Boonville. A little bit puzzling until I remember that a number of his brothers were shoemakers, leather salesmen, etc. While in Boonville he boarded with the Dauwater family. | Wald, Theodore (I173)

3695 | In the church records for the death of Johann Ludwig Thomæ it lists his survivors. It lists his two sons Lorenz and Lorenz; five daughters Anna Margaretha, Barbara, Margaretha Barbara, and Dorothea. It the church records it lists a Lorenz Thomæ Sr. and a Lorenz Thomæ, Jr. While I have always thought this to be a father son relationship, it is not. Instead it refers to the two Lorenzs in the same family. But then I noticed that, in 1853 and 1854, the Regierungs- und Intelligenzblatt für das Herzogthum Coburg [Admininstrative and Intelligence Bulletin for the Duchy of Coburg] was running announcements about the people who were leaving Sonnefeld, Frohnlach and Ebersdorf for "Nordamerika". On Issue No. 66, Saturday, 19 August 1854, it mentioned two of your ancestors, side by side, on the same page. I've attached for you the copy of the top halves of the two pages in the original German. Here is the English translation of the following announcements: Emigration of Margaretha Barbara Walter of Hofstädten toNorth America. Margaretha Barbara Walter of Hofstädten is emigrating to North America and wishes to begin the journey on or around 27th of this month; any notices against her should be made known immediately. Sonnefeld, 14 August 1854. Ducal Office of Justice of Saxe-Coburg R. Rose. Emigration of the Potter Lorenz Thomä of Hofstädten to NorthAmerica. The potter Lorenz Thomä of Hofstädten is emigrating to North America and wishes to begin the journey on or around 27th of this month; any notices against him should be made known immediately. Sonnefeld, 14 August 1854. Ducal Office of Justice of Saxe-Coburg R. Rose. In 1778 Johann Paul Thomæ was living in House 51a in Hofstädten. In 1811 after the death of Johann Paul it came into the possession of Johann Ernst Thomæ and his wife Sabine. After the death of Maria Savina nee’ Bechmann Thomæ in into the possession of Johann Ludwig Thomæ. And Barbara Thomæ was awarded the Brennhaus. In 1835 Johann Ludwig came into possession of both House 51a and 51b. In 1852 the house came into the possession of Lorenz Thomæ, Sr. and in 1844 passed into the house of Lorenz Thomæ, Jr. Finally in 1854 it came into the possession of Ludwig Thomæ, Sr. (the father of the potter). Then in 1855 in passed to Margaretha Thomæ and her brothers and sisters. So I come to the conclusion that Lorenz Thoma immigrated to America after the death of this father in 1854. | Thomæ, LORENZ George Sr (I6271)

The deceased was born in Germany on October 20, 1823, and removed to the United States in 1840, settling in Boonville soon after coming to America. She was ill but a short while, dying at the residence of her son-in-law, Joseph Schuster, Friday morning, December 22. The deceased was a very devoted member of the Catholic church, and her funeral was largely attended Sunday afternoon by the many friends who gathered to pay the last sad tribute. She leaves a circle of relatives. She was the mother of eight children, 51 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and will be missed by a large circle of friends who loved her for her noble character and many acts of charity. 3697 | In the deed given by Reynolds Elledge (son of Benjamin) to the Sleights in 1865, the grantors (Reynolds M. Elledge and his wife Zerilda) reserved one-eighth of an acre, a plot 4 ½ rods square, for "a burying ground for the heirs of the late Benjamin Elledge deceased," the plot being described with great particularity. This burial plot was 60 rods north and 32 rods east of the southwest corner of the old Elledge 80. It lay about 100 yards from the early Elledge log house; it is today traversed by a farm driveway, along which are strewn a few fragments of stones that once marked the burials of numerous descendants of the Boone line." … >The cemetery is located in Griggsville Township. Sometime in the past, tombstones found in the Benjamin Elledge cemetery were moved to a shed/garage/barn to be protected. They have since been moved (by persons unknown) to the Uriah Elledge Cemetery. It is unknown if there are remaining stones buried underground in the old Benjamin Elledge cemetery location.
