- Mrs. Walter Burkhart Funeral is Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter (Emma Mathilda) Burkhart, 74, who died Sunday at her farm home southeast of Bismarck, will be held at 10AM Wednesday from the House of Prayer Lutheran Church, the Rev. Warren K. Johnson officiating. Mrs. Burkhart had been in failing health for several months. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. She was born on a farm near Baldwin on September 29, 1888, a daughter of John and Anna Nordstrom. She married Hans Hanson on October 23, 1908. He died February 22, 1947. She married Walter Burkhart on January 26, 1949. He survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Robert H. (Laura) Catlin and Mrs. Myrtle A. Duvall, both of Milwaukee; Hazel A Hanson, Minneapolis; Mrs Leo E. (Edra) Crawford, San Diego, CA, and Mrs. Richard C (Frances) Knudson, Mandan, one son, Elmer R. Hanson, Bismarck; one sister, Mrs. Roland Bradshaw, Seattle, WA; one borther, John Nordstrom, Bismarck; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. The body will lie in state at the Perry Funeral Homne until time of the services. The family prefers memorials be given to the building fund of the House of Prayer Lutheran Church.
Census of 1910 - Crofte, Burleigh, ND shows she was age 11. Also in household were father, John age 44, mother Annie, age 50, Freda, age 20, John age 12, Helma age 8, Alvin age 6, Annie age 4 and Isaac age 76.
Records show Annie, mother had 8 children, 6 living.
