The community was saddened the first of this week when it was heard that Mrs. W. I. Watts had passed away at her home southwest of Sac City 1 PM Monday. She had not been in good health for sometime but she had been out and about and so her send passing came as a great shock to her husband and family. She had been ill only since the previous Wednesday but her condition was not considered serious. There remains to mourn her passing her husband for children; W. E. Watts and Guy Watts of Alta, Edith of Des Moines Jeanette, a member of the Waves in Hawaii. A cablegram was immediately sent to the latter, but no word has come from her, so it is presumed that the message has not yet reached her. Funeral arrangements have been delayed hoping that some word might yet come, but if not, the services will be held from the house at 2 PM and from the Methodist Church at 2:30 PM Friday. Rev. O. W. Brand, Minister of the local church and Rev. J. T. Snyder of Storm Lake officiate while Farber and Ottoman funeral homes will be in charge. Burial be made in the cemetery at Storm Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Watts purchased a small farm southwest of Sac City about two years ago and moved their. They were improving it and making a comfortable home for themselves for their old age. Walter Elbert Watts, son of Walter Irvin and Nettie Perrott Watts, was born on March4,1909, at Early IA. He passed away at the Alta Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for seven weeks on April 13,1983, at the age of 73 years 1 month and 9 days. He suffered severe paralytic stroke on September 8,1978, with complications following. Elbert spent his childhood days in the Storm Lake area later moving with his parents to Sumner in Eastern Iowa where he graduated in 1922 from the Sumner High School. He then attended one semester of college at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, graduating at midterm in a business course. He worked at a Produce store in Marcus, IA, for several months, then returned to his chosen profession of farming. He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he held several offices when health permitted. He was Nokomis Township clerk for 19 years and in the late sixties was cemetery custodian in which he took great interest. He was a 4-H leader, served in the 4-H county committee and the ASCS early program. He was interested and active in the welfare of his community. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother. On March 25,1931, he was united in marriage to Esther Strom at Alta. To this union two sons were born. Surviving are his wife, Esther, his Sons, Russell and wife Florence of Ft. Worth, Texas, Kenneth and his wife Sharon of Cherokee; Five Grandchildren and four great Grandchildren; one brother Guy of Alta, two sisters Jeanette Watts and Edith Gregg of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Six Nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday April 18 at 11:00 A.M. from the United Methodist Church in Alta with Rev. A. F. Schneck officiating. Honorary attendants were Earl Molgaard, Wesley Kindwall, Warren Hix, and Art Friedrich. Attendants were Wayne Ericksen, Howard Peterson, Robert Magnuson, Ray Mortensen, Warren Jimmerson, and Dr. Brian Walsh. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Alta under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home. In 1940 they bought and moved to a farm west of Alta lived there until 1973. Moved to Alta in new house. Both are buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

KENNETH N. WATTS, 70, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 8th, at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Ethan D. Sayler will officiate. Kenneth was born June 6, 1939 at Early, Iowa to Elbert and Esther (Strom) Watts. He graduated from Alta, Iowa High School in 1957 and attended business school in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963. He was married to Susan Mangold. Ken was later married to Jacqueline Sessions on April 10, 1964 and later married to Sharon Stevenson Stief on August 19, 1972 in Cherokee, Iowa. Kenneth had worked as a loan officer for the Citizens First National Bank in Storm Lake for a few years and for the Central Trust & Saving Bank in Cherokee for many years, also worked for Schoon Construction Co. for several years and was currently working there part-time. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed deer hunting, golf, bowling, gardening, reading, word puzzles, was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and was a great fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Russell Watts.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters: Kendra Watts and her special friend Ywaine Spiner of Sachse, Texas; Tara Watts of Madison, Wisc.; a step-daughter Loni Stief and her special friend Lyle Sargent of Washta, Iowa; a sister-in-law Florine Vick and her husband Richard of Maynardville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Dave Stevenson and his wife Cindy of Marcus, Iowa; sister-in-law Joelle Daigle and her husband Terry of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister-in-law Lori Reinert and her special friend Ben Jobe of Cherokee, Iowa; two nephews Jeff Watts of Haslet, Texas and Randy Watts of Arlington, Texas; two aunts Jean Strom and Bonnie Watts, both of Alta, Iowa; also other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Guy Burdette Watts, 86, Alta, will be held on Thursday, Sept.23, at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Alta with Pastor David Arulnathan Officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. He died at the Buena Vista Co. Hospital in Storm Lake on Sept. 20,1999.
Guy Watts was born on March 3,1913, to Walter Irvin and Nettie Perrott, in Early , IA. He was baptized on Nov.9,1913 in Early. He married Lavon (Bonnie) Blake on March 7,1937 at the Methodist Church parsonage at Sac City, IA. Guy and Bonnie farmed for one year in Sac Co. near Early. They then farmed north of Alta where they made thier home since 1938. Guy enjoyed raising short horn cattle and duroc hogs. He also enjoyed reading and supporting FFA and 4-H. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Irvin Watts and Nettie Perrott; two sisters, Jeanette Watts and Edith Gregg; one brother Elbert Watts; one Nephew, Russell; and one great Granddaughter Tatum Jean Tibbets. Funeral services for Elise Jeanette Watts, 77 of Albuquerque, New Mexico were held Friday, June 7, 1995 at the Barker funeral home in Alta with Dr. Charles Spence officiating. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake.
Elsie Jeanette Watts was born Feb. 20, 1918 in Storm Lake to Walter Irving and Nettie Florence Parrott Watts. She graduated from the Alta high school in 1934. In the late 1930s she moved to Chicago to work as a computer programmer for the Chicago school system. In 1981 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to become a computer programmer for the Albuquerque school district until 1990 when she went to work for a local bank.
Elsie passed away Saturday, July 1, 1995 and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Elbert Watts and a Sister, Edith Gregg. Survivors include a brother and his wife Guy and Bonnie Watts, five nephews and their wives, Russell and Florene Watts, Newark, Texas, Kenneth and Sharon Watts, Cherokee; Ralph and Diane Watts of Aurelia: James and Connie Watts, Storm Lake and Bud and Janette Watts, Spencer.

Russell Watts, Newark, Texas, formerly of Alta and were held Wednesday February 19, at the Trinity Baptist Church, Arlington, Texas, with graveside rites at the Mount Olivet Cemetery. He died Saturday Feb. 15. Russell was born to W. E. and Esther Watts. He graduated from Alta school in 1950. He married Florine McConkey of Storm Lake in 1952. Two sons were born to them. Russell worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for several years. He then attended Bible College at Joplin, Missouri. He served congregations in Oklahoma and Texas. Survivors include his wife Florine Watts; two sons Randall and Denice Watts, Newark, Texas, and Jeff and Sharon Watts, Kennedale, Texas; six grandchildren; a brother Kenneth and Sharon Watts, Cherokee; and other relatives.
