" To the Memory of Thomas Godfrey Esq. born at New Romney in ye Year of our lord God 1553 Sonne and Heire of Peter Godfrey of lydd Gent, wheire he & his Ancestours have continued in good Esteem and Reputation for above Two Hundred Years, as appears by their Funeral Monuments yet extant in ye said church and by their several Wills and Testaments proved in ye Register's Office at Canterbury and
london. He was Captain of ye Horse for above 40 years together before his Death; Notwithstanding -which, hee Himself was charged with, and did find, at every Muster,5 light Horse and 20 Foot.
