Homer M. 'Boots' Adkins, 84, Boonville, Missouri, passed away Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2017, from 6-8 p.m., at Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Boonville, Scott Paris officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Homer was born in Boonville, Mo., on December 27, 1932, the son of Paul H Adkins, Sr. and Winifred D. Adkins. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1950. Homer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boonville. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Oerly, at the First Baptist Church parsonage, on June, 1, 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1954, and spent most of his career with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline, from which he retired after 27 1/2 years. Homer spent his spare time raising tomatoes, building houses and selling real estate for Quinlan Agency. He will be remembered for his lifelong wit and sense of humor.
Homer was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; his brothers Paul Adkins, Jr and Larry Adkins. He is survived by his brothers Lyndel Adkins and Michael Adkins, sister Ann Meuli; his three daughters, Nancy Martin and husband Craig, Columbia, Mo.; Karen Hombs and husband Dennis, Boonville, Mo., and Diane Welch and husband Randy, Bloomington, Ill.. He shared a special bond with his three grandchildren, who will miss him dearly, Neil Hombs and wife Shannan, St. Louis, Mo; Heather Abts and husband Greg, St Peters, Mo., and Becky Schlarman and husband Steve, Maryland Heights, Mo.
