  From: Along Pioneers Trails in Pierce County Nebraska BLIZZARD OF 1888 In the old Plainview cemetery in the east part of town on Highway 20, is believed to be the first historical monument erected in Pierce County. It bears the following inscription: "Erected by Loie M. Royce in memory of her dear pupils who died during the blizzard of January 12, 1888. They were: Otto Rosburg, nine; Hattie Rosburg, seven (children of Conrad Rosburg); and Peter Poggensee, nine, son of Hans Poggensee. This monument was erected by Miss Louise Royce, school teacher heroine, on the Rosburg family lot.
