Notes - Elizabeth N. Simmons departed this life March 14, 1917 of Bright's disease and dropsy. She was a patient sufferer until God called her home. She was born May 10, 1844 and was married to Thomas W. Pierce, March 4, 1860, who has preceded her to the better land; to this union were born eight children, namely: James Pierce, Chillicothe; R. J. Pierce, John L. Pierce and Mrs. Frances Leeper, Humphreys; William Pierce, Galt; Mrs. Mary Finchum, Milan; Mrs. Lydia Grindstaff, Reger, and Mrs. Alma S. Finchum, who died in 1900, the others are still living to mourn her departure. She was a good woman, being loved by all who knew her. She was laid to rest in the Thomas Cemetery, March 16, 1917; funeral conducted by Rev. Hugh Harmon. "Dearest mother, thou has left us, And thy loss we deeply feel, But 'tis God who has bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal.
Living 4 JUN 1904 Sullivan County, Missouri Note: At that time, she is mentioned in the obituary of her father. On 8 Jan 1912, after Thomas' death, Elizabeth Pierce applied for a widow's pension, at which time she was living at Galt in Grundy Co MO. Her last payment was for $20 in Feb 1917 at Humphreys, MO.
