  Your Thauers didn’t go to America after all. I found the following item on Column 21 in the Issue No 2, dated Sunday, 6 January 1877, of the Regierungs-Blatt für das Herzogthum Coburg [ Government Bulletin for the Duchy of Coburg ] : The English translation : The estate of master wagoner Andreas Thauer and his wife Dorothea Thauer born Stegner of Grossgarnstadt, who are described as debtors and taxed together for 7,640 Marks [ $2,013 then, now $42,840 ] in Imperial currency by the posted patents, will be presented to discharge the debt on Friday 6 April 1877, 10 a.m. to be held to the public at the Oberender Inn in Grossgarnstadt. Buyers are hereby requested to register bids with the authorities for the meeting and to appear in the meeting in order to be prepared for the winning bid to the highest bidder. The purchaser must pay the one-fourth part of the initial amount in cash on the date of authorization or at least before the adjudication and, if this payment is not immediately made on the date of authorization, guarantors or pledges are required to provide security from an outside purchaser for the due payment until the date of the adjudication.
