  From Life Sketch: Lady Margaret Mowbray was the eldest daughter of Thomas Mowbray, 1st duke of Norfolk (he appears in Act 1 of Shakespeare's Richard II). The duke of Norfolk was the greatest man in the kingdom after the King and royal family. But Thomas Mowbray had no male heir, so upon his death the Mowbray inheritance passed, through Lady Margaret, to the Howards.
