| 3101 | His will was probated Dec 28, 1749. Burial presumed He married Hannah (Devers? Booker?) January 26, 1691/92 in Slaidburn (Yorkshired) Eng. PA Archives (Quaker records) states that William Bracken came to America on the Quaker ship " The Britannia" and landed in Philadelphia on August 25, 1699. William and his wife Hannah had three children when they arrived in America. The records of his children and grandchildren are in "The Olde Swedes Church" in Wilmington, Delaware. On July 25, 1699, while on this ship William Bracken witnessed George Goodsell's will. So he was probably a young man but not a child, old enough to witness a will 50 years before his death. Because of the illness on the ship, the Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) in Philadelphia appointed a committee on August 25, 1699, "to assist the sick and weak passengers from Liverpool," which probably included William Bracken. Fifteen years later, on August 29, 1714 the Friends in their meeting resolved "whereas 30 shillings were lent to William Bracken, he being now able to repay, therefore Anthony Morris and William Hudson are appointed to write to him so he might return the money again for the use of other poor Friends." Although this story suggests he was a Friend, this family was later connected with Holy Trinity (Old Swedes Church) in Wilmington, Delaware, a Swedish Lutheran congregation until 1790. Barnert, captain of Company H, of the Boonville Training School, is one of the county's most valued and respected citizens. He was born Sept. 22, 1891 in Boonville, a son of Dominic and Mary A. (Back) Barnert, the former, a native of Germany and the latter, of Boonville. Dominic Barnert is a retired carpenter and contractor and one of Boonville's well-known citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Barnert are the parents of the following children: Minnie, who is married and now resides in Chicago, Ill.; Carl, a traveling salesman of St Louis, Mo.; Edgar L., the subject of this sketch; Merle, a lieutenant of the 35th Division, 140th Infantry, Company I, who enlisted at Boonville in the National Guards, was transferred to the army and served in Mexico and then re-enlisted for overseas service; Anna E., at home; and Jerome D., a student in the Boonville high school. Captain Barnert attended the Boonville high school. He worked with his father for a few years in carpentering and contracting and then accepted the position of clerk in the Boonville post office, under R. W. Corum. He enlisted Sept. 5, 1918 in Company K, 12th Battalion, Infantry Replacement at Camp McArthur, Waco, Texas, USA, and he was honorably discharged Dec. 19, 1919. Captain Barnert has been connected with the Training School in Boonville for the past five years, at different intervals, and he has held his present position since Dec. 23, 1918. He has 95 boys in his company and he teaches the primary grade. He drills his company one hour each morning and evening and he is responsible also for the moral welfare of the boys. Captain Barnert is giving much satisfaction as instructor and he takes a most commendable interest in his work and in the lads under his charge. Feb. 27, 1913, Edgar L. Barnert and Marian C. Bradley, a daughter of Thompkins and Mary Bradley, of Boonville, Mo., were united in marriage. The Bradleys are honored pioneers of Boonville and Mr. and Mrs. Bradley are numbered among the county's best families. To Edgar L. and Marian C. Barnet has been born one child, a daughter, Mary Catherine. Mr. and Mrs. Barnet are highly regarded in their community and they have a host of friends in Cooper County. Barnert, 74, a resident of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Boonville, died Monday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the William Wood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. DeFay Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Masonic rites will be held immediately following the funeral services at the funeral home. Friends may call at the William Wood Funeral Home Wednesday until time of service. Mr. Barnert was born Sept. 22, 1891, in Boonville, the son of Dominicus Barnert and Mary Anna Back Barnert. He was married to Marian Bradley, who survives, Feb. 27, 1913, and they had celebrated their golden wedding in 1963. They made their home in Boonville until about twelve years ago, and Mr. Barnert was employed in construction work with the Davis Construction Co. They moved to Chandler, Ariz., where Mr. Barnert was an accountant for the Hickey Plumbing and Construction Co. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Cooper Lodge A. F. & A. M. Surviving are his wife of the home; one daughter, Mrs. T. W. Smith, of Chandler, Ariz.; one son, E. B. Barnert, of Chillicothe; one brother, M. J. It remained in the possession of the Warden and Scholars of Winchester College until the early twentieth century, when it was sold off in individual portions. He was a son of Huoching and perhaps a grandson of the duke Gotfrid, which would make him a scion of the Agilolfing dynasty of Bavaria. He was the founder of the "old" line of the Ahalolfings. Around 724 he was one of the joint founders of the monastery of Reichenau. By his wife Hereswind, Hnabi left at least two children, Ruadbert (Rodbert, Robert), who was count in the Hegau, and Imma or Emma (died c. 785), who married Gerold of Vintzgau and was the mother of Eric of Friuli and Hildegard, wife of Charlemagne. Rodbert son of Hnabi is mentioned in a St. Gall document dated 770. Imma is mentioned in documents of Lorsch, Fulda and St. Gall between 779 and 804. The genealogy of Hildegard is recorded in the ninth-century Vita Hiudowici by Thegan of Trier: "the duke Gotfrid begat Huoching, Huoching begat Hnabi, Hnabi begat Emma, Emma herself the most blessed queen Hildegard" (Gotfridus dux genuit Huochingum, Huochingus genuit Nebi, Nebi genuit Immam, Imma vero Hiltigardem beatissimam reginam). Her beloved sister was by her side. Visitation for Jane will be Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville. Celebration of life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Joshua Ketelsen officiating. Inurnment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville. Jane Johnston was born on July 18, 1939, the daughter of John Rudolph and Edna Sophia (Stock) Derendinger. She graduated from Boonville High School, and then attended Valparaiso University where she earned a BA in history and sociology. Jane continued her education at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. There she received her MA in sociology; after earning this degree, she enrolled in Loyola University, Chicago, where she received an MBA. Jane was employed by The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois (now University of Illinois- Chicago) for 41 years. She went from switchboard operator and bookstore manager to Associate Dean for Academic Services of the law school. As associate dean, she advised students in selecting courses, assigned faculty to the courses they would teach each semester, and, along with other associate deans, served as an advisor to the dean. She represented the law school at alumni gatherings around the country, and traveled to Lithuania, Czech Republic, China, and Taiwan on behalf of the law school. Following completion of her MBA in 1984, Jane began oil and watercolor classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Later she studied pastels and scratchboard with the renowned art teacher Winnie Seibert. She had two solo exhibits of her work at The John Marshall Law school, and two solo exhibits at The Doederlein Gallery in Chicago. In 2014 Jane was made an honorary member of the Honolulu Rotary Club, and honorary member of Rotary International. Also, in 2014 she was given the Spirit of John Marshall Award, an award that is given to an employee who serves with distinction at the law school. Jane was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Boonville. For many years she was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago and served as its treasurer. Upon her return to Boonville, she reunited with Immanuel. In 1974 Jane married Bernard Oswald who preceded her in death in 1997. In 2005 she married Robert Gilbert “Gil” Johnston who preceded her in death in 2018. Also preceding Jane in death were her brothers John Edward and Kenneth William Derendinger, Sr. She is survived by her sister Doris (Jim) Dace; sisters-in-law Mary Derendinger, Linda Derendinger, and Jean Shea; honorary daughter Margaret (Steve) Eklund; nieces Penny (Gordon) Cain, Tammy Poulsen, and Kathleen Shea; nephews Kenneth Derendinger, Jr., Timothy (Wanda) Derendinger, Sr., John Quentin (Gayla) Dace, and John Phillip (Beth) Derendinger; and stepsons Ben (Leisa) Johnston and Iain (Elizabeth) Johnston.
