2451 From Boonville, An Illustrated History.

In 1900 Frank M. Truby, a photographer who came to Boonville in the late 1890's, published a view book of Boonville scenes that was one of a series of such view books he published about that time (the others were in Marshal and Sedalia). Truby operated out of the old Macurdy "Palace of Photography" on Morgan Street, but he apparently only remained in Boonville about five or six years. He filed for bankruptcy in November 1904.

E. G. Thoma is much pleased over the result of his exhibit of barred Plymouth Rock chickens at the State Fair at Sedalia last week. He had eight birds there and won two blue and two red ribbons and the cash premiums that accompanied them. he was awarded first and second on pullet and the same on cockerel. the competition was very strong, there being birds from some seven different states.

Sabina’s marriage record states that she was the daughter of Samuel Tryller the shoemaker ( Schuster ) of Saalfeld but the only Samuel Tryller I could find at Geneanet was Samuel Tryller ( 1550 – 1608 ), the Kaufmann [ merchant ] of Saalfeld.  This Samuel is supposed to have married twice, both times in Saalfeld — to Ottilie Winzterlein, who died without issue, and, in 1583, Judith Müller, the daughter of Nicolaus Müller.  She bore him six children — two boys and four girls — but none of them was Sabina.  Compared to Judith, there’s nothing about Ottilie.  But I note that Samuel the merchant was 15 years old when Sabina was born.  Maybe he had a scandalous fling with Ottilie but she died in childbirth and their baby was adopted as Sebastian’s daughter to keep her biological father’s secret.

But there may be two different Tryller families in the same town. The first Evangelical Lutheran Deacon of Graba was Sebastian Tryller but he got the job in 1520 — four years before the other Sebastian was born in nearby Saalfeld.  Perhaps the Deacon was Peter’s son.  He’s not in the tables and Geneanet but Peter did live in Torgau, the epicenter of the Reformation.  So I gotta read through the Triller-Sagen, which covers your Tryllers on pages 15 – 18, and “Der Prinzenraub und die Familie Triller” to be sure.

2463 From Chip Kalb is the explanation for the Occupation of Georg which was given as fraenk. marckgrefl. Pfar- und Pfrindtverwalther in Hof

“Fraenk. marckgrefl. Pfar- und Pfrindtverwalther in Hof” is the windy way to say that Georg Steiner was the assistant pastor from the North Court of the Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth.

“Pfrindt” is an old German word for “sinecure”, meaning that, because Steiner was just an assistant pastor, he was on half-pay while the senior pastor was on full pay.  “Fraenk. marckgrefl.” is an old abbreviation for fränkische markgräfliche, meaning that Rev. Steiner’s boss was the Margrave of Franconia.  Since 1398, it had been the traditional title of the Princes of Bayreuth, who controlled Franconia, and held by the Margraves of Brandenburg, who were already margraves by 1398.  The Principality had two administrative towns for the Oberland and the Unterland.  One of them was Hof, which was responsible for the Oberland, the northern highlands, including Bayreuth and the Saale River.  As you’ll see from the following map, the Oberland of the Principality was one of the neighbors of Saxe-Coburg.

As you may know, Andreßen and Andreasen were normally used as surnames in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein to identify sons of Andreas but, as far as I know, they had never been used as forenames to identify them.  They would have made more sense in Germany, especially in the north, as middle names.  So I’m thinking that Hildburghausen just got caught by a shifting current in the middle of the changeover between the Thüringian dialect and proper German.  Like English, High German, the language of the Coburger Land as well as of Martin Luther’s Bible, went through phrases.  Hildburghausen just happened to be in the last third part of the Early New High German phrase ( Frühneuhochdeutsch, 1350 to 1650 ).

2467 From Dianna Pilkenton Viebrock - Christian Schupp came to America in 1847. He settled in the Cooper County, Missouri region. He donated one acre of land he owned to build the St Paul's German Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Germany has 49 Holzhausens and Hesse has 10 Holzhausens so the village of Holzhausen, Kirchhain, Hesse-Nassau, Prussia, German had to change its name in 1934 to avoid the confusion.  It was once the estate of the noble family of Rau zu Holzhausen so Holzhausen was renamed as Rauischholzhausen.

2468 From Dinaethwy and Molwynog

Cynan Dindaethwy was the son of King Rhodri Molwynog of Gwynedd and his wife, Princess Margaret of Ireland, presumably born in the cwmwd of Ynys Mon (Anglesey) which gave him his epithet. His father was probably quite elderly at the time of Cynan's birth, since it appears that the son was too young to take the throne in AD 754, when it was seized by Lord Caradog ap Meirion of Rhos. Perhaps, the people of Gwynedd thought Rhodri too old to father a child, for there were certainly rumours, recorded in the Red Book of Hergest, that Cynan was really the son of the Royal woodsman, Calydigan.

Cynan kept his head down during King Caradog's reign but, upon the latter's death in AD 798, he claimed his father's crown once more. Caradog's son, Hywel Farf-Fehinog, who had expected to inherit the kingdom was not best pleased. He may have been a child at this time for, though Civil War followed, it does not seem to have been very active until AD 813 when the two sides met in battle. Cynan was victorious but, the following year, Hywel was back. He drove poor Cynan from the shores of Ynys Mon (Anglesey) - probably to Ynys Manaw (Isle of Man) where his daughter was Queen - and proclaimed himself King. Cynan tried to retake his throne two years later, but was killed in battle.

Cynan married Mahallt (alias Matilda), daughter of the Lord of Flint, but seems to have had only one daughter, Essylt, wife of King Guriat of Ynys Manaw.
------------------------

Cynan Dindaethwy (English: "Cynan of Dindaethwy") or Cynan ap Rhodri ("Cynan son of Rhodri") was a king of Gwynedd (reigned c. 798-816) in Wales of the Early Middle Ages. Cynan was the son of Rhodri Molwynog and ascended to the throne of Gwynedd upon the death of King Caradog ap Meirion in 798. His epithet refers to the commote of Dindaethwy in the cantref Rhosyr. Unlike later kings of Gwynedd, usually resident at Aberffraw in western Anglesey, Cynan maintained his court at Llanfaes on the southeastern coast. Cynan's reign was marked by a destructive dynastic power struggle with a rival named Hywel, usually supposed to be his brother.

There is no historical record of Cynan's early years as king, but his reign ended in a combination of natural disasters and military reverses. In 810, there was a bovine plague that killed many cattle throughout Wales. The next year Deganwy, the ancient wooden court of Maelgwn Gwynedd, was struck by lightning.

A destructive war between Cynan and Hywel raged on Anglesey between 812 and 816, ultimately ending with Cynan's defeat and banishment. Cynan and Hywel are said to be brothers in historical works such as Lloyd's History of Wales, although Lloyd does not cite its source. The Annals of Wales mention the pair only by name, without any title, relation, or patronym. (In comparison, it takes care to point out the brotherly nature of Elisedd's slaughter of Gruffydd ap Cyngen in Powys around the same time.) The genealogies from Jesus College MS 20 deny Cynan and Hywel were brothers at all, instead making Hywel the son of Caradog ap Meirion and a distant cousin of Cynan Dindaethwy son of Rhodri Molwynog. The Harleian genealogies agree with this. Cynan died within a year of his exile according to the Annals of Wales and the Irish Annals.

After Cynan's death, there was a battle at his former court at Llanfaes on Anglesey noted by the chronicles, but the combatants are not identified.

Cynan's daughter Esyllt became the mother of Merfyn Frych ap Gwriad, the first King of Gwynedd (825-844) known not to have descended from the male line of Cunedda.

Dr Beyer has some information about the parents of Anna Magdalena Rückert.  Mr Friedrich Meinhof has mentioned only one marriage for Johann Caspar Franck.  But Dr Beyer counted two.   Miss Schwalb was the second wife but she was not the mother of our Magdalena, the wife of Laurentz Rückert.  Her mother was the first wife but her maiden name is not known.  Also, Heinrich Philipp von Heßberg was from an old and rich family of nobles so, to be able to get the time of day from him, Laurentz Rückert must have done very well in business.  Anyway, here’s the information from Dr Beyer :

From Nachgelassene Gedichte Friedrich Rückerts und neue Beiträge zu dessen Leben und Schriften [ Posthumous Poems of Friedrich Rückert and New Contributions About His Life and Works ], page 71 of “Friedrich Rückert’s Herkunft” [ Friedrich Rückert’s Pedigree ] :

The English translation :

The marriage of Hans Rueckert ( L[ine]. 5 ), the Rev. Pastor Kost could not show, because the first pages of the marriage register are missing [ in 1877, not 2017 ] from the second volume of the parish registers.  The mother of the lawful wife of Hans Rueckert Magdalena b. Franck was the daughter of Pastor Joh. Kasp. Franck and his first wife, who died on 23 October 1661, whom he had married as a pastor in Hellingen.  The Susanna Magdalena ( Krauß, p. 441 ), later to become the wife of Mayor Ritter of Heldburg, on the other hand, was born on 15 July 1670, the pastor’s daughter from the second marriage with Marg. Schwalb, daughter of Mayor Schwalb of Heldburg ( Krauß, p. 441 ).  “1670, 22 Novbr. Laurentius Rueckert was married with maiden Magdalena the daughter of Hr. Joh. Kaspar Franck, Pastor of this place”, writes the parish register ( cf. for Franck, Krauß, pp. 441 – 501 ).  This Laurentz Rueckert, son-in-law of Pastor Franck, is evidently identical with Laurenz Rueckert, to whom Heinrich Philipp von Heßberg from Brünn [ Kreis Hildburghausen ] had sold in the middle of the seventeenth century sold stones, etc., from his estate in Westhausen at the going rate in the annual amount of 40 Simmern corn of Coburger measure for his lifetime ( see Krauß, loc. cit. p. 430 ), a clear proof of how well-respected and prosperous L. R. was.

The German transcription :

Krauß a. a. O. S. 430 ), ein deutlicher Beweis, wie geachtet und wohlhabend L. R. war.

A Simmern is a German unit of measure used for grain and corn.  It’s about 5 dry gallons, which is how a full bushel would feel like.  I don’t know the measurement system of Coburg so I had to use the one for Stuttgart to figure out the weight of a Simmern ( 1 Simmern = .62 Imperial bushel = 5.12 American dry gallons ).

2478 From Genealogy of Cole Family:

There is a very long line of William Coles that have been added to Family Search that connect this William Cole to Justice Cole and further back in the mists of time. But in examining all of these sources associated with these lineages I find no real sources of information. So I have omitted those persons and started the lineage here with William and Agnes de Northwood Cole.

It hath  been  asserted  that  this  family  derives  its origin  from Coel, the founder of  Colchester, one of the Kings of  Britain.Yet without claiming as its patriarch either this renowned descendant of  Caractacus, or the Justice Cole, who lived in the reign of  King Alfred, or the valiant General Cola, who, in command of the united forces of Devon, Somerset, and Dorset, defeated at Pinhoe,* in 1001, Sweyne, the savage Chieftain  of the Danes, its high antiquity and rank amongst the magnates of the land in Saxon times are attested by  Domesday  Book,  and. by  "This deed of  King William's, the Conqueror,  [which] was written  in the Saxon Tongue, 5° W. C. 1070, and was put into English 1587, 15° Maij, A0  27 Reg. Eliza bethre, and remains [1630] in the Bishop of Winchester's custody." "William, King, greetes Walkesein, Bishop, and Hugon de Port, and Edward   Knighte,  Steward,  and Algesime  and  Symon  and Allfus,  Porveiour, and  COLE  and  Arderne  and all the Barons in Hampshire and Wiltshire friendly-and Know ye that I give unto St. Peter and Walcholyne Bishopt with all the convent to be as free asBishop Alsyme was in the days of King Edward, and to hold and enjoy all the privileges greate and small and I give commaundment that noe man for me or any other withstand or deny them the same, or disquiet that which I doe graunt in any wise unto St. Peter or Walcholyne Bishop Ol' any of his successors."
"This is in the Inspeximus of the Charters of confirmacions made to Richard Fox and Peter Courtney, Bishops of Winchester, as they are inrolled in the Chauncery, 30 jan. 2° H. 8, and 15 Nov. 4° H. 8.''
The precise period of the settlement of this baron on the borders of the counties of Devon and Cornwall is not ascertained, but it was, doubtless, soon after the above date, as he accompanied the bold Martin de Tours (or Turribus) from hence, on his marauding expedition into Cemaes, South Wales, and was ancestor of the families of Cole, Young, and Mathias.*
William Cole and Ysabellat his wife are named in AElsize Roll of the County of Cornwall, in the third year of King John (anno domini 1201). In the fourteenth year of King John (1212) Roger Colet granted to Edith, late wife of Ralph Burdeville, a capital messuage and lands in Hoke---, in the county of Devon, to be held of him for the term of her life, with remainder to himself and his heirs ; and in 1219 mention is made of Roger Cole in a Fine roll relating to a third part of one knight's fee in Hardwinesleigh,§ in the same county.
"Richard Cole, of the County of Devon," says Segar, "lived in the tyme of Henry III., as appears by the Charter (to the Monastery of Bromere) of Amiee Redvers, Countess of Devon." But it is not known what relationship he, or the above-named persons, bore to
